Which one is you? And who took the pictures?
I’d be proud to admit to being either one of those two gentlemen. I’d also be lying! They are: my nephew (the young, good looking one), and my brother-in-law (the young, good looking one). I was the photographer. There is only one picture of me from this particular backpacking trip – but since I was in my skivvies, only Retta can see it!
I’ll admit to being “the young, good looking one”.
I’ll also admit to sporting shorts way too tight, and constantly complaining about being hot, tired, and hungry probably every step of the hike. A generation later, as I led my nephew on a weekend backbacking trip I was reminded of Hal’s infinite patience, and I smiled with appreciation and understanding of my payback, every step of the hike, hearing the grumbling behind me “I’m hot, I’m tired, I’m hungry”.

Don’t forget “how much further”?
